Definitions of Editing Terms
COPY EDITING: Brings a consistent style to bear on grammar, punctuation, capitalization, sentence structure, spelling and the other basic elements necessary for a professional presentation.
CONTENT EDITING: Identifies logical inconsistencies, errors in fact and other matters that go beyond just the use of the English language. In fiction, this might include problems in characterization, inconsistencies in scene, atmosphere and time, and other issues.
REVISION: This involves all of the above, plus an actual rewrite of the manuscript.
