FROM 'THE PHOENIX'
(Boston-Providence-Portland)

Hope street
Dave Kane lost his son, 18-year-old Nick
O’Neill, in the Station fire. Nick was by all counts a magical kid —
creative, multi-talented, loving, and naturally charming. Like many of
his fellow concert-goers that night, his passing left a gaping hole in
the collective life of his family. Kane pays tribute to his son with a
new book, 41 Signs of Hope.
“This book is not about a fire,” writes Kane. “It’s about the aftermath
of a tragedy: a continuing echo of signs and spiritual visits that I
hope you will find both comforting and uplifting.” Kane, who has spent
much of the last three years keeping his son’s vibrant personality
alive, believes that those who have passed are still among us on a
spiritual level and they appear to us if we’re paying close attention.
The title itself is a reference to a number Nick seemed partial to
throughout his life, a number that continues to emerge in bizarre ways,
which Kane and his family interpret as signs from Nick. The coincidences
and appearances are compelling even for skeptical heathens like myself.
“Writing this book has been the most uplifting experience of my life,”
Kane told me. “Knowing that these signs are real has made all the
difference in the world for us.” Kane’s writing style is casual,
conversational, and fluid. Pages flip quickly and easily, as the reader
begins to wonder about why all these seemingly random but awfully
interesting situations arise. Is it Nick calling out for attention,
making himself felt in the here and now? Kane goes a long way to answer
that question with a resounding “yes.” You might, too, after reading
41 Signs of Hope.

Wonderful , April 10, 2006
A great book for people who feel
they have been getting signs from departed
family and friends and think no one will believe
them. Also would be great for those people who
don't know what signs they could be getting. I
found it very helpful and comforting to hear of
the authors signs affirming that our loved ones
do try to let us know they are around us at
times. We suffered the loss of our 22 year old
nephew (Josh) in a motor cycle accident, who
also wrote poems and left some wonderful things
behind it has inspired us to do something with
his art. Thank you for writing this book.

Just believe, June 25, 2006
Since I live in Woonsocket, Rhode Island and am
familiar with the Station nightclub tragedy and the story of "41
signs of hope" I wanted to read the book to have a more personal
account of this tremendous loss that the writer has experienced.
His re-telling of all the "signs" is amazing, believable and
heartfelt. I read each chapter and had goosebumps through all
the pages of this story. Read it and see and "feel" for yourself |
